UN Global Compact

Taking Responsibility

Since 2014 Freudenberg Performance Materials has been committed to the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and its principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.

Principles 8 & 9 require members to undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility, and encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Production

Sustainable Manufacturing

At Freudenberg Performance Materials, sustainability is an integral part of the entire product life cycle: from the use of raw materials and energy in production through the use of our products by the customer, right up to final disposal. We not only comply with international standards – we aim to exceed them.

Our factories are certified to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management standard. Freudenberg follows well-defined corporate guidelines and policies in sustainable resource management. We regularly implement continuous improvements to our processes to reduce water & energy consumption, and minimize emissions.

Products

Sustainable Products

We are driven to create innovative products with a sustainable footprint. We prioritize the integration of sustainable raw materials into our product range.

In 2007, we started using rPET fibers, recycled from clear transparent bottles, to make nonwoven and woven interlinings. We use the equivalent of 45 million bottles worth of recycled fibers in our global interlining production every year.

We developed the first biodegradable nonwoven interlinings in 1995, using viscose fibers to make a product that will decompose after one month, leaving behind no toxic residues.

We pioneer the development of energy-saving adhesive technologies that enable our customers to reduce the footprint of their garment manufacturing process.

GRS

Global Recycled Standard (GRS)

We are among the first interlining manufacturers worldwide to obtain the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) Certification for production and trading sites. The certification process requires a complex audit requiring checking of many internal functions, not only manufacturing, but also purchasing, R&D, chemical safety/storage, waste water treatment, etc.
