Interlining & Fusing Press Training with Freudenberg Apparel

Freudenberg Performance Materials Apparel, in cooperation with the ASBCI and the NIRI Institute, organized a practical workshop focusing on the topic of interlinings. The event took place on May 16, 2024 at the Nonwovens Innovation & Research Institute (NIRI) in Leeds. Attendance was reserved for members of the ASBCI (Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry).

The association is a nonprofit organization offering networking opportunities for members to connect and share industry best practice. It also offers its members a varied program of technical training, conferences, and visits throughout the year. The exclusive Freudenberg workshop focused intensively on practical knowledge about interlinings and fusing: When and why should an interlining be used? What areas of application are there? What criteria should be considered when selecting interlinings for a garment? But above all, what should be considered when fusing the interlining to the outer fabric?

The two Freudenberg trainers Nigel Towell (Managing Director) and Andy Laycock (Sales Manager), both experts with many years of experience in their field, had not only prepared a presentation, but also plenty of garment samples and test kits to try out. They presented the latest product trends to the interested participants from industry and education, but above all they gave lots of helpful tips and tricks on the different adhesives, how to find the right fusing temperature and how to assess the fusing press settings to achieve the desired result. Each participant also had the opportunity to bring along their own garments or applications, which could be tested and discussed together. Our Freudenberg experts were able to provide the participants with a lot of helpful input and information.

The ASBCI (Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry) was formed in 1992 having evolved from the original British Interlining Manufacturers Association (BIMA) which was founded 50 years ago. Today the association has over 100 members from all sectors of the UK textile and clothing industry, representing all key areas such as fibers, interlinings, adhesives, waistbands, presses, textile testing houses, clothing manufacturers and retailers, educational institutions and many more.
Their active support ranges from developing of technical handbooks and organizing industry conferences and technical visits and events to publications such as the ‘In Association’ e-magazine and annual yearbook to keep their members informed of the latest industry news and market trends.
